Caution Women, Enjoy Your Beverages In Moderation

Here at SoCal Brewinery we focus on promoting beers and wines, but occasionally want to take time out to talk about how you should maintain good overall health, while still enjoying your favorite alcoholic beverages.  It is no surprise that drinking in excess is bad for your overall health in many ways.  This includes liver damage, weight gain that can lead to heart disease, and different types of cancers.  While there are studies that show a single drink a day can actually help prevent some things like heart disease the key is to avoid binge drinking.

A new study by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center was published in the March issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.  The focus of the study was to see if there was a difference in risks for breast cancer between drinking red or white wines.  The results were that itFred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center makes no difference.  What they did find, however, was that excessive intake of alcohol of any kind greatly increases the risk of breast cancer.  Women who drink more than 14 drinks per week face a 24% increase in the risk for breast cancer.  It is much healthier to try and avoid having more than one drink per day.  This allows for any potential health benefits without the increased risk of breast cancer or many other diseases.

So the moral is to continue to enjoy your favorite wines, or beer, but avoid drinking in excess.  Moderation will lead to a much healthier future.
