BrewDog/Cambridge/Stone Juxtaposition Black PilsnerLast Thursday James Watt from BrewDog and Will Meyers from Cambridge Brewing Co traveled to San Diego and joined Stone Brewing Company's head brewer Mitch Steele to create a new collaboration beer. They had been talking through email and Stone had brewed a pilot batch of beer. Once they were all in town and had tasted that pilot, they got down to business making modifications to it to create what they would all decide to be the final product. What came out of this was the Black Pilsner, which is a first for Stone because it turns out to be the hoppiest beer they have ever brewed. It is 10% ABV and represents a style completely different than what has become expected from Stone Brewing. That is part of what intrigues the brewers at Stone to work on their collaboration beers. They get a chance to break away from their traditional methods and really expand the possibilities. Will from Cambridge Brewing Co and James from BrewDog talk about the process of making this beer.
Last year, Stone teamed up with the Jolly Pumpkin and Nøgne-Ø brewing companies to create their Jolly Pumpkin/Nøgne-Ø/Stone Special Holiday Ale. This year they have gone in a completely new direction with this new collaboration.
