Dan Gordon, an experienced brewer, and Dean Biersch, an experienced restaurateur joined together and developed the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company in 1987. In 1988, they opened the first Gordon Biersch Brewery restaurant in Palo Alto, Califorina. Gordon Biersch concentrates on only using the finiest ingredients and serving authentic German lagers. They also focus on serving it fresh and cold. They brew their beers onsite. Gordon graduated from the Technical University of Munich at Weihenstephan, West Germany. This is one of the most advanced brewing schools. Biersch graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in International Relations with a minor in International Buisiness. Together they have developed a great business model featuring great beers in addition to their restaurant chain.
In 1999 Gordon Biersch sold their restaurant assets to Big River Breweries. They still operate as a brewery and bottler of their beers, but are now officially called Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant Group, Inc. and currently run 37 restaurants.
