Pay For A Pint, Get A Pint

Are you aware that quite often when you order a pint of beer you are actually getting less than a pint?  A pint is 16 ounces.  A pint glass holds exactly 16 ounces of liquid.  This means that if you can pour 16 ounces of beer into your 16 ounce glass and there was absolutely no head, it would come completely Honest Pint Projectto the top and be virtually impossible for your bartender or server to get the beer to you without spilling.  In actuality, quite often when you order your pint, you are actually getting maybe 14 ounces or less considering the fact that it cannot be transported completely full and that there may be a half inch of head on the top.  That is 1/8 of your beer that you paid for ... missing!

Well, the folks at the Honest Pint Project noticed this and have set out to do something about it.  They are encouraging establishments to guarantee that when you order a pint you get a pint.  This often means using glassware that is 18 or 20 ounces to allow for some breathing room.  They are creating a list of bars which certify that every pint is in fact a pint.

In addition, Oregon legislators are actually meeting to discuss a bill that would allow health inspectors, during their normal inspections, to grant establishments meeting the requirement a certification to hang in their window that they serve a "Honest Pint."

Let us know your thoughts on this.  Should more states follow Oregon's lead on this or should people just come to expect that when they ask for a pint they are paying for closer to 14 ounces of beer.
