Stone Brewing Company
Stone Brewing Co. was founded by Steve Wagner and Greg Koch in 1996 and the first beer was tapped on July 26, 1996. Steve has knowledge and experience in brewing and Greg has knowledge and experience in business. Together they make a perfect combination for building a hugely successful business. Originally the brewery was located in San Marcos but then in 2006 moved to its current location in Escondido. The current location is located on 55,000 square feet and includes a 8,000 square foot refrigeration area.
It also features the Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens restaurant which serves all of their signature beers as well as some from other local breweries. There is also a nice wine list in case you are headed there with someone who prefers a glass of wine. Their food is excellent specializing in organic and local ingredients. There is a lovely indoor seating area as well as a patio and beyond that some nice gardens for enjoying your beer when its nice outside, which in San Diego is quite often. Adjacent to the brewery and restaurant is the Stone Brewing Company Store. There you can get Stone beer glasses, t-shirts, hats, and of course beer. They have a cooler of all their famous beers as well as a bar for filling up your growler if you have one. All of their year round releases are available there. They offer a complimentary tour leaving from the company store several times each day. Check below for the times. It is recommended you get there early to get you name in for the tour as it often fills up quickly. On the tour they walk you through their beer making process, explaining the ingredients they use as well as the equipment. You also get to see their bottling operation and also the Stone distribution center which is also located on site. At the end of the tour they offer you a complimentary tasting including the Stone Pale Ale, Stone Smoked Porter Ale, Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale, and Stone IPA.
