Stone Brewing Company 09.09.09 Vertical Epic Ale

September 9, 2009 will mark the release of the 8th Vertical Epic Ale from Stone Brewing Company in Escondido, CA.  Starting on February 2, 2002 they have been releasing a new Vertical Epic Ale exactly one year, one month, and one day apart.   Here is a quick list of the previous Epic Ales.

02.02.02 - Imperial Witbier
03.03.03 - Belgian Strong Dark Ale
04.04.04 - Belgian Strong Pale Ale
05.05.05 - Belgian Strong Dark Ale
06.06.06 - Belgian Strong Dark Ale
07.07.07 - Belgian Strong Pale Ale
08.08.08 - Belgian Strong Pale Ale

The series of Belgian inspired beers will continue this year with the release of the 09.09.09 edition and will continue until 12.12.12, New Years Eve, 2012.  At that time, if there is any left, the idea is to taste all 11 beers in a row and enjoy how each beer compliments the beer before and after.  It would be quite an experience.

So what is the 09.09.09 release supposed to be like?  Well, from what we hear from the folks at Stone they have created a Belgian Porter.  Added into this mix are some chocolate malts and tangerine peel that gives the beer a flavor of orange and chocolate.  The beer is being aged in French Oak, which will add to the vanilla characteristics of the beer and make the flavors stand out even more.

This sounds like it may be the most interesting beer in the series yet.  Stay tuned for further details and do not forget to head out and have a pint on Wednesday, September 9th.
